EK Dental Surgery Tips: 3 Ways Cosmetic Dentistry Can Enhance Self-Esteem
It’s a very unusual person who wouldn’t accept a better smile.
And there are excellent reasons for that – anecdotes and studies show that an attractive and healthy smile can be a boon to our confidence and more importantly, how others see and assess us.
If you are dissatisfied with your smile as it currently is, you may have heard about cosmetic dentistry, and that it might help.
But you also may wonder what the specific treatments are and how much the treatments can help?
At EK Dental Surgery, we’re here to tell you why you should consider cosmetic dentistry, and what we can offer.
The importance of the smile
Let’s take a look at three ways a smile improved by cosmetic dentistry can help you – at work, in relationships, and your health!
#1 Workplace advantages
The Kelton Research Study discovered several pieces of evidence that those with an aligned, white smile are more likely to be promoted or hired over those with crooked, broken, stained, or discoloured teeth.
Sixty-six per cent of study participants reported they are more likely to remember a person with a great smile than they are someone who doesn’t smile or has aesthetic issues their teeth.
So, consider applying for a job with multiple applicants – you want to impress your potential employer, and the first step to that is making a memorable impression. A smile is critical to this.
Going further, nearly 75 per cent of the respondents reported they are more inclined to trust someone with a nice smile. This is true even when if candidates have designer suits, good jobs, or luxury cars.
Another study, in this case funded by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, researched personality traits people assumed about others based on nothing but their smiles.
Fifty per cent of respondents were shown images of people before their cosmetic dental treatment while the other half saw pictures of the exact same people, only after cosmetic dental treatment.
The study revealed that the same people were much more likely to be assigned positive personality traits after their smiles were improved through cosmetic dentistry.
So, by receiving the cosmetic dentistry procedures recommended by their dentist, and nothing more, these people were automatically thought to be more friendly, intelligent, exciting, and kind.
#2 Social advantages
Nearly three-quarters of single adults would rather kiss someone with an attractive smile than someone with misaligned teeth.
That statistic above was unearthed during Invisalign’s “Singles & Smiles” online survey, and there’s more:
- Eighty-two per cent of adults say the first thing people notice about others is their smile.
- Ninety-two per cent of adults say an undesirable mouth-related trait is a major turnoff, like bad breath (82 per cent) and crooked teeth (over one-third of those surveyed).
- Thirty-nine per cent of adults surveyed believe having cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, or orthodontic treatment would help them attract “the one.” Twenty-one per cent believes that straight teeth would at least give them the potential to enter a relationship.
#3 Health advantages
Although cosmetic treatments are designed to improve aesthetics, procedures such as bonding can strengthen your teeth.
For instance, by covering worn edges or hairline fractures, we can prevent further wear to damaged areas. Similarly, straightening teeth can improve oral hygiene, avert bone damage, and make chewing easier.
What EK Dental Surgery can do
We offer cosmetic dental options that can improve your smile, career, and social life, and thus your self-esteem!
