Having missing teeth makes you uncomfortable when smiling or talking and even eating your favourite foods.
Missing teeth, if left untreated, can lead to various oral health problems.
Fortunately, there are many options to address this dental issue.
These options are called restorative treatments as are they are designed to restore your smile and the functionality of your teeth.
One of the treatments we have is a dental bridge. Dental bridges are composed of several false teeth joined and secured together by dental crowns.
The bridge fits between two natural teeth to fill in the space caused by tooth loss. If you don’t wish to get implants or dentures for your missing teeth, a dental bridge is a good alternative.
The dental bridge consists of two crowns on either end of the bridge and is fitted onto the anchoring teeth. The false teeth of the bridge and the crown are designed to match the shape and size of your teeth.
In case there are no natural teeth to use as anchoring teeth, the dental bridge will be possibly secured in place with dental implants. Dental bridges can be made of different materials and your dentist will discuss the best option for you.
Cantilever bridge – consists of a single false tooth called a pontic, which is attached to one abutment.
Fixed-bridge – composed of three crowns joined together. The crown at each end covers the natural abutment teeth and the crown in the middle is the one that replaces the missing tooth.
Adhesive Bridge – a tooth-coloured or metal wing is attached to a natural tooth on either side of the gap. The adhesive bridge can have one or two wings.
For the dental bridge treatments, two appointments are necessary. During the first part of your treatment, your tooth or teeth is prepared for bridge abutments. Your dentist forms the outer surface of the tooth by creating a cylindrical shape to which the bridge is fitted.
Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental lab to create a custom-made bridge. A temporary bridge will be placed while the permanent one is being fabricated.
At the last appointment or the “fitting” appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and the tooth is prepared for the fitting of the permanent bridge. Your permanent bridge is assessed for fit, comfort and bite before securing the bridge with a bonding agent.
At Ek Dental Surgery, your Springvale dentist will perform an examination of your case to see if dental bridges are the best option for you. In addition, you will receive care guidelines at the conclusion of your dental treatment. Dental bridges are a good investment for your smile, helping you overcome the consequences of tooth loss and regain your self-esteem.
